Buhari Issues Threat To Shut Down The Internet Over The #Endsars Protest

Abdul Mahmud, a former Students' union leader and activist, has lent his voice to the #EndSARS movement which has been revitalized in the last few days.  In a tweet he shared, Mahmud alleged that President Buhari is desperate and ''the threat to shut down Nigeria's internet over the #EndSARS protest is real.''   See his tweet below;   Buhari is desperate. The threat to shut the internet is real. I mentioned it to protesters on Saturday. It is the last dice of this irresponsible government. Time to start exchanging telephone numbers! #SARSMUSTEND We must resist the shutting down as it will imperil small businesses, hospitals that depend on the net for specialist online services, and cripple our economy. Buhari doesn't care; but we must force him to care! Nation-building isn't about exercising naked power!

Mr President Flagged Again By Twitter After Tweeting False Claim That He's Not Contagious And ls Now Immune To COVID-19

Twitter again flagged one of Trump's tweets for violating their rules on spreading misinformation about COVID-19. This time it was because of his false and dangerous claim that he is now immune to the coronavirus and can no longer spread it. In the tweet, he wrote, "A total and complete sign off from White House Doctors yesterday. That means I can’t get it (immune), and can’t give it. Very nice to know!!!" The letter from the doctors he is referring to was issued on Saturday night and does not explicitly say that the president tested negativefor the virus. The warning labels, which also make it impossible for the tweet to be retweeted, are a fairly toothless rebuke. They've also deleted posts and other tweets the president has shared. Still, the platform has long resisted calls to ban the president entirely from tweeting. However, while Twitter has stepped up their corrective actions against the president's habit of making false claims in recent months, they see

Ex Trump Adviser Steve Bannon Held For Fraud

Bannon and three others have been charged with defrauding people who donated to the viral "We Build the Wall" campaign on GoFundMe.  Bannon was arrested Thursday morning along with Brian Kolfage, Andrew Badolato and Timothy Shea, according to a statement from the US Attorney's office in the Southern District of New York. “As alleged, the defendants defrauded hundreds of thousands of donors, capitalizing on their interest in funding a border wall to raise millions of dollars, under the false pretense that all of that money would be spent on construction. While repeatedly assuring donors that Brian Kolfage, the founder and public face of We Build the Wall, would not be paid a cent, the defendants secretly schemed to pass hundreds of thousands of dollars to Kolfage, which he used to fund his lavish lifestyle. We thank the USPIS for their partnership in investigating this case, and we remain dedicated to rooting out and prosecuting fraud wherever we find it.”  Audrey Straus

The Pros and Cons Of COVID-19 Contact Tracing Apps

Written by                Jack -  Guest author Contact tracing apps seem to be the new fad. Their popularity is also one that comes on the back of a series of unfortunate events. They seem to hold another approach to fighting the menace of a disease that has claimed no less than 400,000 lives worldwide. The widespread race to get these apps working can also be attributed to the coming together of two big names in tech, Apple and Google, to make the frameworks for such apps happen. Like every other thing, though, how does the scales tip in favor of, or against, these apps? The Case for Contact Tracing Apps In April alone, the US people lost more jobs than the economy had been able to gain in about a combined decade. More unemployment claims are filed daily, while companies do not take their staff out of furlough anytime soon. Businesses are folding up daily, too, especially those still paying running costs (rent, electricity, etc.) even though they are not opening and s
