On Friday, the media reported that a massive cyber attack hit Australian Government and businesses which is reported to be handiwork of a nation-state backed hacking group and China is top on the suspect list. As reported by news.com.au, in an urgent press conference in Canberra, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the ongoing, large-scale hack was being executed by a “sophisticated, state-based cyber actor." “This activity is targeting Australian organisations across a range of sectors, including all levels of government, industry, political organisations, education, health, essential service providers and operators of other critical infrastructure,” Morrison told the media. Government agencies believe “China is behind cyber attacks on Australian institutions, including hospitals and state-owned utilities”, a ccording to The New Daily The report quoted ABC television as saying that government sources had confirmed the attacker was China, while Australian Strategic Policy Institute

The Australian government's new coronavirus contact tracing app which was released on Sunday, was downloaded 1million times in just 5 hours of launch, that is, approximately 1 out of every 25 Australians is using the app.   COVIDSafe  uses Bluetooth to connect with other phones within 1.5 metres (4.9 feet) which also have the app installed. If they are in contact for over 15 minutes (fiftheen minutes), the app records data such as the date, time, contact distance and duration, and the other user's encrypted identification code. This information is stored on the user's phone for 21 days, after which it is automatically deleted.
