Animals Are Now Testing Positive For COVID-19 In Tanzania

From having only 20 coronavirus cases to 480 cases in less than a month. This now puts Tanzania as the country with the highest number of cases in East Africa. The country’s president John Magufuli is however, convinced that the number may be exaggerated due to technical hiccups with the imported testing kits. The president said the testers  had randomly obtained several non-human samples on animals and fruits which included a sheep, a goat and a pawpaw and the results came out positive. The samples were given human names and ages and were submitted to the country’s National Referral Laboratory to test for coronavirus without the lab technicians knowing the true identity of the samples.

A Yet To Be Identified Man And His Wife Die In Auto Crash

The man and his wife were crushed by a motorist at Sabon -Gari village, near Gada- Biyu, on the Abuja -Lokoja road. It was also learnt that a daughter of the deceased sustained injuries and was taken to the Abaji General Hospital for treatment by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the area. A witness said the incident happened last Friday around 3:45 pm when a Toyota Corolla which was on speed ran over the deceased man and his wife as well as their daughter who were riding on a motorcycle. He said the trio were returning from the farm, when the driver of the Toyota car coming from Gwagwalada axis suddenly veered off the road and crashed into them. He said the man died on the spot while the wife died at the hospital. When contacted, the Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Abdullahi Haruna Shehu, confirmed the incident which he attributed to speed limit violation and loss of control. The New York  Times has warned about the invasion of Asian giant hornets in Washington state, adding another threat to worry about to the already calamitous year. The situation is devastating as thousands of bees were found laying dead with their heads ripped off, killing a whole colony.  The state of Washington has urged people to find, report on and kill these hornets. A dead one was first spotted in December on a beekeeper's front porch. These asian giant hornets are the largest species of hornets in the whole world.

Bolivia Plane Crash Claims 6 Live

A Bolivian  military plane crashed on Saturday, killing two crew members and four Spaniards. The Spaniards were en route to catch a flight back to Spain, the Bolivian Defense Ministry said in a statement, identifying them as Francisco José Gallegos Gonzáles, Yandira Olivera Velarde, Delis Salvatierra Velarde and Alba Aparicio Formas.      The plane went down in a marshy area on the outskirts of the northeastern city of Trinidad, the statement said, adding that the investigation to the cause of the accident was underway.     The aircraft was also carrying coronavirus test samples to the city of Santa Cruz.   Initial findings showed that the plane reported that it planned to return to the airport in Trinidad 12 minutes after take-off due to engine failure. Contact with the aircraft was then lost.

A Billionaires Daughter Dead

Terca Muigai is the daughter of Kenyan billionaire and Keroche Breweries Chairman, Joseph Karanja.  She died on Saturday, May 2, following a tragic accident. Terca was until her death, the Strategy and Innovation Director at Keroche Breweries.   Keroche Breweries announced her death in a press statement. “As we begin preparation for her final sendoff we ask for respect and privacy during these difficult times,” part of the statement read.

A Woman Fell To Her Death Celebrating End Of Lockdown.

A young  woman from  Kazakhstan  has fallen more than 110 feet to her death just last weekend after posing for a cliffside photo to celebrate the end of the country's COVID-19  lockdown. It was her companion who called the emergency services, and her lifeless body was pulled out of the water and taken to the morgue of Antalya Forensic Medicine Institue for an autopsy. Authorities determined her death was an accident, according to her relatives.

Video Teleconferencing service, Zoom, announced that the platform now has more than 300 million daily active meeting participants. Zoom CEO Eric S. Yuan, last month shared that the company had hit 200 million daily active meeting participants. That means the company has added more than 100 million users in roughly three weeks' time. Previously, Zoom reported that it had a total of 10 million users at the end of December 2019.This incredible stat was shared during a company webinar with Zoom CEO Yuan and later detailed on the company’s website.

French Football League Has Been Cancelled

The 2019-20  Ligue 1  season has been abandoned after the French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe's announcement that no sporting events will be allowed to take place until September. Philippe has confirmed that there is no possibility of Ligue 1 resuming until September amid the ongoing fight against coronavirus, with France still in a state of lockdown. “The big sporting affairs cannot occur before September,” he said in a national assembly on Tuesday. “The 2019-20 professional football season cannot return.” The French professional league (LFP)  announced plans to restart the campaign on June 17 last week, and UEFA has set a deadline of August 2 for domestic leagues to reach their natural conclusions.

Twitter SMS Dead And Gone

It is now official, Twitter has finally announced that it is  turning off its Twitter via SMS service for the majority of its global user base.  "You can no longer receive tweet notifications via SMS. Twitter is retiring the feature." On Monday twitter said via twitter support: "we want to continue to help keep your account safe. We’ve seen vulnerabilities with SMS, so we’ve turned off our Twitter via SMS service, except for a few countries. Everyone will still have access to important SMS messages needed to log in to and manage their accounts."

The Australian government's new coronavirus contact tracing app which was released on Sunday, was downloaded 1million times in just 5 hours of launch, that is, approximately 1 out of every 25 Australians is using the app.   COVIDSafe  uses Bluetooth to connect with other phones within 1.5 metres (4.9 feet) which also have the app installed. If they are in contact for over 15 minutes (fiftheen minutes), the app records data such as the date, time, contact distance and duration, and the other user's encrypted identification code. This information is stored on the user's phone for 21 days, after which it is automatically deleted.
